I thought with VPN, we don't have to play DNS roulette anymore. I would like to keep the number of factors affecting tvpad service to a minimum:
1. TVPAD service is still alive.
2. VPN is working to get around geo-location blocks.
3. Magical DNS server is found and used.

Have a Dlink dir655 lying around and input PPTP server IP address converted from server list from purevpn site using http://www.hcidata.info/host2ip.cgi
Username and password from purevpn AND CONNECTED right away!!!. Tvpad4 in auto DNS. Tvpad m121s inDNS 47..
Bought a Dlink dir615 off amazon about $10 and IT WORKS TOO
The first router is an AirPort Extreme. Bought an Linksys e1200 and had a hard time connecting to purevpn. Purevpn works with the Dlink dir 615 and dir655 routers.

Does the selection of the country to which you connect via VPN have much of a bearing on the quality and strength of the video stream you get? In other words, does it make any difference whether you go through a European country (far from China) as opposed to going through a VPN connnection in Hong Kong or another nearby Asian country (Japan or Singapore)?
The tvpad streams are only 1Mb/s so that's hardly any bandwidth.
Basically any decent connection should work.

Maybe for the SD streams but the HD streams are over 300KB/sec constant (checked with the bandwidth display on the screen and also my router) for the TVB apps anyway. The VOD will max my connection and then drops to nothing for a few minutes as it seems to buffer blocks at a time rather than constant. This is for the TVpad 4. The TVpad 1 was lower but it did not work good without a lot of buffering at a friend's place when he only had a 1Mbps line (that was 3 years ago, he upgraded it right away).
