You're right, that was my mistake, been so long since I touch DSL. But the rest still holds true. I don't have VPNGate, so can't help you there.

Do you guys know if there is a firmware (dd-wrt, xwrt, etc) or a router that would allow me to either:
(1) assign/allocate a specific local ip (say, 192.168.1.199) to the vpn (l2tp/pptp) connection and have it act as a gateway through which other devices can connect, or
(2) allocate a subnet or a segment (like a dmz) to have vpn access. e.g. 192.168.3.x devices get vpn access while 192.168.1.x devices get regular Internet access.
That way I don't need a second router, as proposed in solution #3. In theory, I don't see why (1) or (2) can't be done.
To tell you the truth I've never had paid vpn service. What's the allowed data per month? Unlimited? I mean, these companies are essentially ISP's; PPTP encapsulates PPP packets over IP'.

Thanks... Cannot get Mexico working with PureVPN. Pointed to Brazil and all worked fine with no restrictions at all (even with the new apps). Even the HK VPN server has some restrictions.
That's not how Routers works. You're asking a router to do a very complex stuff, even commercial firewalls have difficulty doing what you ask. If you don't want to go with a 2 router approach. You can setup a computer to be the gateway. But your computer does need 2 network card to do it. Not sure if a laptop could get by using wifi & wired connection. basically setup ICS with the computer on VPN.

I tried to install the PureVPN Apk directly on the TV pad 4, it needs to use a remote Android mouse because that apk is supposed for a touch screen operation. I used a remote mouse to set it up. It works and i can watch all apps unblocked. However, it crashed 10 times now. Each time after a few minutes to a few hours and locked up the Internet connection of the TV pad. I have to do a Restore to wipe everything each time. I guess the TV Pad is not 100% Android as on your cell phone and has some conflict with some outside apps.
I tried the two routers approach. I bought a Cisco Linksys E1200 as recommended by another perspn on this blog. I tried a few hours and failed even I follow the instructions. Here is what i Do:
(1) when it is new, go to Setting - Basic, choose PPTP in the drop down menu. Choose Auto IP address which is default.
(2) input the PureVPN corresponding IP address for the country server, i had tried different one and won't work.
(3) Inout the user name and password the next
(4) on the Optional, i entered the domain name Purevpn. On the next line, I entered the VPN link such as SP1. Purevpn.net
(5) Below the menu, there is DCHP, I just left those unchange and click Save
(6) After Save, I reboot.
(7) after about 1 minute, it rebooted and come back to the log in menu. I log in again. The entered information are still there.
(8) Go to Server menu, click Connect.
It then show the message "cannot obtain IP address" each time i tried to connect. I reset the router one time and did everything again. It is the same message " cannot obtsin IP address. The router cannot get any Internet now unless press the Reset switch on the bottom for 10 seconds to reset to factory condition. Please help. What i am dojng wrong. I tried to inout the information of TigerVPN and the same exact results.
I also tried to install VPN client directly on the TVPad 4 firmware 5.06 but unsuccessful. I believe the new firmware had locked out some ports so it cannot access VPN. It wouldn't even allow access to the internet normally via the browser. I think, we are screwed.
I haven't tried the 2 router method because I am not unable to find a free VPN trial which has access to non US sever and also allow it to be installed in a router. If anyone found one, please advise.

I saw some blogs said they flassh their router with DD-WRT. Do I need to flash the Linksys E1200 with DD-WRT first? Can the original router connect to the Purevpn. I had never do that but i saw Youtube has some videos.

I saw the flashed router sell for $89 but the normal Linksys E1200. Is just $40 in store and even cheaper on Amazon.

If you are using PureVPN, prompt their 24X7 online support. They are very helpful. They will send you the installation instruction for your router (not just dd-wrt). Some routers do not support PPTP (like my DD-WRT router). I have to install OpenVPN on the router and use UDP (not TCP, it was too slow for streaming).

Has anyone experienced a screen asking for a PIN when you unplug your TVPAD 4 and replug it? My TVPAD 4 was working fine with VPN connected to Canada server. There was a power outage at my place last night and today when I turned on TVPAD, it asked me for a PIN, which I have never set up. After ideal for a few seconds, it will show some commercial screens with Miracast and DLNA apps. Pressing any buttons will make the screen go back to the screen for PIN.
Any idea what to do? Or how do you factory reset without having going to the home screen since right now I can't go anywhere without a PIN (that was never set up). Any help is much appreciated.
It is an Android requirement for having a password for the system when you set up a VPN account on an Android device. Whoever set up the VPN for you must have had set the pin without letting you know. Ask him for the pin.
If you are adventurous, there is a tiny hole on the bottom cover, you can try if it is the reset button, but don't blame me if you brick your box.

I have the e1200. I can't get it to connect to purevpn with PPTP. I even tried to flash it to DD-WRT. I end up getting another router. I think the E1200's cpu is too slow. I purchased an ASUS RT-N53. The ASUS have a 500mhz CPU while the e1200 only have a 300mhz. However, the Asus have an internal antenna, so the wireless coverage is not as good as the routers with external antennas.
I put an E1200 as my second router method. I also paid for a subscription for life from PureVpn. When I tried to setup the E1200 with purevpn, it did not work in PPTP or L2TP.
Then I cancelled the PureVpn subscription at once and got my money back. Then, I got 2 years subscription from PIA, and tried it with E1200. It did not take it. Then , I switched to L2TP mode on the E1200, BAM, it worked.

I'm sure you did not know how to connect to the purevpn server. If the router don't take host name you will need the ip and purevpn server is not xx.purevpn.com it's xx.pointtoserver.com.
